Set in the beautiful grounds of Cortachy Castle where they have taken place since the 1880s, Cortachy Highland Games and Flower Show is a very traditional highland games event that retains its charm, and each year offers a warm and friendly welcome to all those from around the region as well as from across Scotland and around the world.
It has even become an annual holiday for some extended families, who like to relive their own childhood with their own young families.
The Cortachy Highland Games, taking place on Sunday August 14 from 1pm, is a fun day for all, and families love it as there are plenty of exhibits and activities for everyone to see and participate in.
These include children’s races, fancy dress competitions, flower and hands-on crafts in industrial shows and competitions, traditional heavyweight events, tug of war, highland dancing, a competition bagpipes, a photography contest, even a dog show and even more traditional and somewhat chaotic. dog race.
The highlight of the event is the famous duck race on the South Esk River, and the games conclude with a grand auction of much of the merchandise on display under the main marquee.
A spokesperson for the games said: “There will be a variety of craft stalls and local businesses here to tempt you. Also visit the tea tent for tea/coffee with a scone or pancake.
“This year, the annual games raffle is once again offering incredible prizes, thanks to the generosity of patrons and supporters of the games.
