Winnebago Animal Shelter will offer reduced adoption fees this weekend

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – Winnebago County Animal Services (WCAS) opens its doors for the BISSELL Pet Foundation’s “Empty the Shelters” fall adoption event from Saturday, October 1 through October 8.

Adoption fees for dogs and kittens will be $25 and cats will only be $10 to adopt throughout the event.

“Due to an increase in the number of dogs, cats and kittens visiting WCAS over the past few weeks, our population has reached critical capacity,” says Amber Pinnon, Adoption and Care Program Coordinator. volunteering. “We hope this event not only alleviates our growing demographic challenges, but also allows these very deserving pets to find their forever homes. To adopt, individuals must have an application approved by WCAS. Adopters are encouraged to have their applications pre-approved prior to the event. Adoption applications can be submitted online by visiting or by visiting WCAS, located at 4517 N. Main St. in Rockford.

All adoptions include a wellness exam, neutering or neutering, microchipping, vaccinations including a one-year rabies shot, flea and tick prevention.

Winnebago County residents also receive a one-year rabies registration tag. Adopters must be at least 18 years of age or older, present state-issued photo identification, and have registered a minimum of animal complaints with the county.
