The Currituck County Department of Animal Services and Control charged a county resident with two counts of animal abuse on Thursday, July 7, after two dead dogs were found at a Moyock home.

Christopher Ryan Riedel, of 128 Mack Jones Rd., was also charged with two misdemeanor animal abuse charges for two other dogs found alive with injuries. Riedel was arrested on $40,000 bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for July 13, 2022.

The dogs were discovered on Sunday, July 3, 2022, when animal control officers responded to a report of animal cruelty at 128 Mack Jones Rd. Officers found two deceased French bulldogs, females named Nala and Ruby. Necropsies were performed on both.

The two surviving dogs were taken by Animal Control to a veterinarian for examination, treatment and documentation of their injuries. These dogs are Hershey, a male French Bulldog, and Marlee, a female Pomeranian/Husky mix. At this time, they are back with their owner who is an acquaintance of Mr. Riedel.

Currituck County Animal Services and Control urges all county residents to report suspected cases of animal abuse to 252-453-8682.
