Southeast Alabama Highland Games to be held September 18 in Daleville | Local News
The Southeast Alabama Highlands Games will be held on Saturday, September 18 at Culpepper Park in Daleville. This will be the fifth time the event has taken place – it would have been six, but organizers were forced to cancel the 2020 event due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Organizers said they were following safety guidelines for vendor activities and spacing. The event is all outdoors.
The doors open at 9 a.m. and the sporting events will start before 9:30 a.m.
The 2021 event was moved from Dothan to Daleville after officials from the city of Daleville approached organizers about a partnership for the event, said Chris Bailey, SAHG board member. Bailey said the city offered help that organizers of the non-profit event couldn’t refuse.
Culpepper Park in Daleville is located between US 84 and State Highway 134.
“It’s a big open space; there is great equipment there, ”Bailey said. “It gives us enough space to make sure we have enough room for everything and to create space for all participants. “
Bailey said most of the vendors and food vendors this year are locals, as traveling vendors were difficult to plan due to the date change from spring to fall. But Bailey said there will be activities for the kids and plenty of vendors for attendees. The Army Aviation Friends will take rides on the group’s Huey helicopter and Fort Rucker’s morale, welfare and recreation will also be on hand.
