the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have a new leader for the imminence of the Rat King Armageddon Game in the form of the Shredder.
A statement from IDW laid out the plot of the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Armageddon Game by longtime scribe Tom Waltz and Sonja Red illustrator Vincenzo Federici. He explains: “In The Armageddon gamethe Turtles – under the direction of the Shredder – begin a dangerous quest to seek allies against Rat King’s terror trio: LeatherKrang, Baxter Stockman and Madame Null.” The editor also said the groundwork for this monumental event was under construction over Valse and TMNT Co-creator Kevin Eastman’s first 100-issue series at IDW, as well as under the direction of writer Sophie Campbell since taking over senior editorial duties for the series in 2020.
Co-created by Eastman and Peter Laird and first hitting comic book store shelves in 1984, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles quickly became the kind of pop culture sensation that never seems to fall out of fashion. This was largely reinforced by the 1987 animated series of the same name which found its way into a younger target demographic than the much more overtly adult-oriented comics of the time. While the titular heroes in a half-shell have taken on a slew of iconic foes over the years, Oroku Saki, better known as Shredder, has always remained at the top of this list since his own introduction into the whole thing. first issue of the original. series. More recently, Oroku Saki has abandoned his old ways to serve as the Turtles’ silent ally as they navigate life without a leader.
Editor Charles Beacham remarked The Armageddon gamethe importance of the series. “This story is going to be huge! he said. “There is a tonne players (and more than a few surprises), and honestly, that’s just the beginning. When we reach the end of this saga, it will mark the beginning of a whole new era for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.” He added, “Whether you’re a lifelong fan of TMNT or brand new to the party, The Armageddon game is not to be missed.”
Commenting on his experience working both on and to Armageddon GameWaltz said: “It is an absolute honor and privilege to return to the IDW TMNT continuity, and to have the opportunity to do so as the creative lead of a massive, multi-level event like The Armageddon game (which has been bouncing around in my brain since I walked away after #100) is the real icing on the cake.” He continued, “I can’t wait for the fans to see what we’re up to. We have a great story to tell and incredible collaborators are joining us to tell it. Let the games begin!”
