Sea of Thieves in-game event sparks player conflict

Rare and Microsoft’s Sea of Thieves is hosting the final chapter of its season six story arc which includes new voyage, new items, and cosmetics. More importantly, it features an in-game event where players can be in a massive conflict where players can either save or destroy a pirate outpost known as Golden Sands. Although the location is currently destroyed in-game, players can either save it and restore it to its former glory, or keep it destroyed and see what will appear in its place once the season is over.

As the event progresses, Rare has done everything it can to encourage players to get active and express their efforts, which of course includes speaking out on social media. Many gamers have indeed made their voices heard on this, as #SaveGoldenSands and #RuinGoldenSands have both been seen on Twitter at some point. Rare even went so far as to release limited-time t-shirts with hashtags for players to show their support.

As it stands, it seems the public reception of the event is mostly leaning towards saving the Golden Sands, but both sides have discussed their talking points to save and destroy the location. A discussion about the official r/Seaofthieves subreddit has players expressing their views on why they want to see the Golden Sands destroyed, which many players say destroying the game world provides more opportunities for changes and new experiences.

Overall, players enjoyed the conflict and the banter that came with it. The event won’t last long, as the event results will end on June 8, 2022.

Sea of Thieves is available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Windows Store.
