Scottish Highland Games coming to Bozeman

BOZEMAN – On Saturday the Scottish Highland Games took place near Dinosaur Park in Bozeman.

“It’s nice to be able to come back down here, to get some shots, to bring people together,” said Justin Jessop, who is running the event. “We’re really excited to come here and compete and start these games here in Bozeman.

The popularity of the sport continues to grow and Jessop hopes to make it a must-attend event one day.

“We are trying to develop this to the point where we actually have the Scottish clans coming in, we have the vendors coming in and hopefully in the near future we can make this festival one of the biggest festivals not just in Montana. , but the United States, ”he said.

What participants enjoy is the feeling of being part of something. It’s competitive, but everyone is there to support each other.

“His family,” said participant Cally Stanek when asked what her favorite part was. “Even though we compete against each other at some events, overall it’s just about getting yours (personal best). We’re always here to cheer on the other person, the help get mentoring.

Wes Goodman, who helped facilitate Bozeman Strongman’s first competition, was a contender in Saturday’s event and for him it’s just nice to pick up heavy stuff and throw it away. “

“I love strength sports and all the culture behind it,” he said. “I think everyone is incredibly encouraging. It’s just a lot of fun going out and throwing stuff out too.
