If you are a fan of the Saint-Bernard, come and meet Winston! He is 1-2 years old, but still a puppy at heart. Winston is a mixed-breed St. Bernard and quite a big boy at 90 pounds! He’s a lovebug from a guy who could be your new BEST friend! Winston is friendly and smart, so any workout would probably be fun and pretty easy. Remember that while he likes humans, he doesn’t like other dogs at all. Therefore, Winston should be the only dog in your household. He will need a large, fenced-in yard and a human who would like to have a LOT of fun exercising with him on a regular basis. His adoption fee is $150, plus $25 for an annual dog license, if you live in Jackson County. For more information or to schedule an appointment with him, please call Jackson County Animal Shelter at 541-774-6654 and press 0 to be transferred to a staff member. Don’t forget – the Jackson County Animal Shelter is open to walk-in dogs on weekends from noon to 4 p.m.
Work cat program
We also wanted to let you know about a very cool program at Jackson County Animal Services. The Working Cats program seeks to find an adoption placement for healthy adult cats who are not suitable for traditional adoption for social or behavioral reasons. Working cats provide a service to the community as pest and rodent control. Previously deemed ‘unadoptable’, these cats now have the option of testing positive live. Plus, adopting working cats saves lives! The shelter has successfully placed working cats in places like barns, farms, vineyards and more! Cats are usually adopted in groups of two or more, with some exceptions. Keep in mind that these are unsocial cats that for the most part cannot be handled by humans and may not benefit from socialization attempts. However, they enjoy the support and company of other cats in a “work environment”. To learn more about the Working Cats program, click here or email [email protected]
The Jackson County Animal Shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Don’t forget that to visit the dogs on weekends, you can now stop by without an appointment from noon to 4 p.m. Appointments are always required to visit cats. To make an appointment, first browse adoptable animals online at fotas.org/adopt, then call 541-774-6654 and select option 7 to be connected with a staff member.
