Outside Lands festival could signal a return for large-scale entertainment events
SAN FRANCISCO – Day tickets for the Outside Lands music festival go on sale Thursday. Health officials said it might just be a sign that big festivals and events are coming back.
San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park Polo Field is relatively quiet right now, but in October that will change. The organizers hope to bring the estate to life as it has done in the past with the music, art and food festival.
Event organizers have announced that one-day tickets will soon be available for the three-day festival which is currently slated for Halloween weekend.

California health officials said they hope to bring back full-scale festival events after the state fully reopens in mid-June and will continue to provide advice for specific events.
“We are closely tied to the state, as you know, and this date of June 15 is a date where we’ll see what guidance remains from the state. And we’re going to do what we’ve always done in San. Francisco, which is looking at our local conditions, ”said Susan Philip, San Francisco interim health manager.
Local health officials said more vaccinations and falling infection rates were the reason for discussions of the ongoing large-scale events.
Philip said the organizers of Outside Lands have worked closely with health experts on planning and are an example of how some of the city’s iconic events can unfold.

“We’re in a fantastic position right now, we can even talk about the Outside Lands. It’s a San Francisco staple every fall,” Philip said. “So that’s super exciting, for me as an interim health worker, but also as a person who enjoys these events.”
Some major event planners are planning their return this year.
After being canceled last year, organizers of the Gilroy Garlic Festival have announced plans for drive-through events in July. And BottleRock in Napa County has announced plans to move forward over Labor Day weekend.
But other big festivals, including Coachella and Stagecoach, initially tried to reschedule their shows, but ultimately decided to push their festivals back to 2022.
Health experts have said it will be some time before the organization of major events returns to normal.
