Mary Fenner Gupton Bass, 87, passed away peacefully on Mother’s Day, May 8, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. Originally from Franklin County, Mary was the daughter of the late Frank Fenner Gupton and the late Mary Magdalene Gupton. She was married to William Charles Bass, and they recently celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary.

Mary graduated from Mills High School in Louisburg, North Carolina. Her most treasured job was being a stay-at-home mom, helping her two sons enjoy their childhoods. Later, she worked at J. Spencer Love and Boston Cleaners in Burlington. Her hobbies included painting, gardening, and raising her many pets. Mary was very devoted to her family, caring for her mother, Madeleine, during her aging years. She loved animals and everything related to nature. She loved listening to Elvis records and spoiling her granddaughters.

Those who cherish her in memories include her husband Charles; his son Damon Bass and his friend Betty Andrews; his son Brett Bass and his wife Leah; adoring granddaughters Maddie and Sarah Bass; her daughter-in-law Gail Moore and her husband Bill; brother Charly Gupton and wife Janet; brother Rodney Gupton and wife Debbie; sister-in-law Faye Gupton, several nieces and nephews.

Mary was predeceased by her mother, father, stepmother Rinda Gupton, brothers Bobby Gupton and Rudolph Gupton, and infant child.

A funeral service will be held at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. with family receiving friends from 12:45 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. before the service.
