New GOTAFE course tailored to the needs of the animal services industry

New course available: Rachel Trusler, a graduate of GOTAFE, has landed a fantastic job at a dog grooming salon.

From next month, the Goulburn Ovens Institute of TAFE will be offering another course for students interested in pursuing a career in the animal services industry.

Certificate III in Animal Care Services will replace Certificate III in Animal Grooming and Certificate III in Pet Services with a general industry qualification.

Students will be able to specialize in animal care or pet grooming in the course.

GOTAFE’s director of services and natural environment, Andrew McGranahan, said the course was designed to provide students with comprehensive skills to work in boarding, ranching, shelters, animal grooming, pet sitting and other facilities and services.

“We are delighted to offer the new Animal Care Services Qualification, which has been specifically developed to meet the changing needs of the sector,” said Mr McGranahan.

Rachel Trusler, a GOTAFE graduate, said studying pet grooming prepared her for her job at a dog grooming salon in Melbourne.

She said she learned practical skills like brushing her teeth, cutting herself, bathing in water, drying and cutting her fingernails.

“My dream job is caring for rescue animals and animals recovering from injuries,” she said.

“I liked studying at GOTAFE because everyone is so nice, friendly and helpful.”

Mr McGranahan said the subject matter of the course was developed for the changing needs of the animal welfare sector.

“Students will learn practical skills such as how to assess an animal’s welfare status, provide advice on general animal care, basic animal first aid, health and safety at work, communication skills and the promotion of well-being at work,” he said.

“These are important skills that will help support the growing workforce in the animal care industry, which faces increased demand as people seek a wider range of options to keep their pets healthy. healthy and happy company.”

The course was available at the GOTAFE Wallan and Wangaratta Tone Rd campuses, with the first cohort starting August 10.
