Long Beach Animal Care Services has returned to its pre-COVID-19 hours, the city announced.

Adopting dogs and cats during the pandemic required appointments and advanced animal screening, among other requirements. But now people can once again come to the shelter – part of the PD Pitchford Animal Village – and visit their potential pets before deciding to adopt one.

Weekday hours are now 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, with adoptions also available from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Online applications are also still available, with searches by race, size and gender. But appointments are no longer required for adoptions.

“Expanding our adoption hours — especially on weekends — will provide more opportunities for families to come visit our shelter and adopt a cat or dog,” Mayor Robert Garcia said in the statement. release of Friday, September 2.

The spcaLA facility next to Animal Care Services, also part of PD Pitchford Village, is open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.
