Indianapolis Scottish Highland Games and Festival turns 10

Take your kilt and your bagpipe. Now is the time to celebrate all things Scottish.

The Indianapolis Scottish Highland Games and Festival hosts the 10th anniversary of the event on Saturday.

There will be many ways to experience Scotland in Indianapolis, from food and drink to entertainment and vendors.

When are the Indianapolis Scottish Highlands Games and Festival?

The festivities are from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on October 12.

All events will take place at German Park, 8600 S. Meridian St., Indianapolis.

How much do the tickets cost ?

Adult admission is $ 12 online until 11:59 p.m. on October 11 and increases to $ 15 at the door. Seniors and students get a $ 10 discount on entry, while ages 5 to 12 are $ 5. Children under 5 are admitted free.

The active army costs $ 10 with a military ID at the door. A family package is available for two adults aged 5 to 12 for $ 35.

What are the games?

The Indianapolis Scottish Highland Games 2019 will have 105 participants competing in seven men’s and seven women’s categories.

Each competitor is required to wear a kilt and must remain dressed at all times on the field. Prizes are awarded to the top three candidates in each class.

Most of the classes will compete against each other in nine events. They are Braemar and open stone, caber, heavy and light weight for distance, heavy and light hammer, sheaf and weight on bar. Novice groups will only compete in seven events for safety reasons.

A children’s stand is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Free activities include face painting, quick ink portrait sketches, a wand workshop, and an opportunity to be part of a children’s knight.
