The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has canceled all of its entertainment events for 2021. The cancellation includes RODEOHOUSTON competitions, concerts and entertainment, the carnival and other attractions and activities, which were recently postponed from May 4 to 23 in due to the current pandemic.

“While we were optimistic that moving our rodeo to May would provide a better opportunity to host our annual community event that rodeo fans love and expect, unfortunately it became clear that the current health situation is not going to change. is not improved to the extent necessary. to host our event, ”said Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo President and CEO Chris Boleman in a press release. “While this is an extremely heartbreaking decision for our rodeo volunteers and the rodeo community as a whole, we believe this decision is in the best interest of the health and well-being of our community. “

The rodeo said there were several factors in the decision to cancel, including health and safety, as well as financial issues. After extensive consultations with local and state officials and medical experts, Rodeo officials concluded that canceling the 2021 event was the right decision.

The rodeo, which usually takes place in March, was also forced to cancel part of its events last March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, concerts by Kane Brown, Dierks Bentley and Keith Urban have been canceled.

The Junior Livestock and Horse Show competitions will always take place in March, in the form of private events. The Junior Market Auction and the Champion Wines Auction will also be held in May, also as a private event. These events will follow all national and local health and safety guidelines.
