Entertainment, events announced for “Football Weekend in Saskatchewan”

The first edition of the “Football Weekend in Saskatchewan” will take place in the queen city on September 16 and 17.

The event was advertised as a collaboration between the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Regina Thunder and the University of Regina Rams.

The two-day show begins with the Riders taking on the Edmonton Elks. The Riders will look to improve on their 6-7 record after two straight losses to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on September 16.

Saturday, two matches are scheduled. The Regina Thunder will start the day at 1 p.m. against their provincial rivals, the Saskatoon Hilltops.

The Thunder enter the weekend game with a 4-0 record for the season. The team is also coming off a 29-21 overtime win over the Hilltops in Saskatoon on Sept. 10.

After the matchup between Thunder and Hilltops, another game between Regina and Saskatoon is on the schedule.

At 7 p.m. at Mosaic Stadium, the University of Regina Rams will face the University of Saskatchewan Huskies. The Rams are currently 2-0 for this year’s season.

The event will feature a number of other festivities.

Ahead of the Rams and Huskies game, Confederation Park will host a U of R Alumni Tailgate Party from 4:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Saturday.

The event will feature food, games and giveaways as well as a performance by singer and rapper Roy Wood$ on the Original 16 stage.

Saskatchewan Roughriders Mitchell Picton and Dan Clark will be available to sign autographs during the event. A performance by country artist Justin LaBrash is expected during the halftime show.

Ticket packages are available for the first “Saskatchewan Football Weekend”.

Tickets for each of the three individual matches are also available.
