EMBRO- The Embro Highland Games will be making a comeback this Canada Day.

The Scottish Heritage Celebration will take place this Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Jennifer Moodie of the Zorra Caledonian Society says there will be plenty of competition throughout the day.

“Some of the events that our guests may see at our Highland Games are stone throwing, weight haul for distance, hammer throwing and caber throwing. You will see a whole bunch of male and female competitors who are top-ranking competitors from the Scottish Canadian Athletics Federations.”

Moodie says there will be lots of other fun activities too.

“Visitors can expect to enjoy a great celebration of Scottish heritage and tradition. You can see things like dancing, bagpipes, heavy events, a 10k road race, 5k and 2 km and there is even kilted yoga.”

The Embro Highland Games are the oldest games in the Ontario Highlands, beginning in 1937. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, games were only stopped during World War II.
