Dr. Raul Pino named Orange County health director

Orange County, Florida — Mayor Jerry L. Demings has named Dr. Raul Pino as the next Orange County Health Services Director.

“Dr. Pino is a revered public health expert in Orange County,” Mayor Demings said. “He has an outstanding reputation among our citizens, as well as in the professional medical community in Central Florida.”

Dr. Pino served as Director of Health for the Orange County Department of Health for the past three years. As of March 2020, Pino worked side-by-side with Mayor Demings at 166 COVID-19 press conferences.

As Director of the Department of Health Services, Dr. Pino will oversee all strategic, operational, and fiscal responsibilities of the department, which includes oversight of County Correctional Health Services, Drug Free Office, County Medical Clinic of Orange, animal services and mosquito control. Division, as well as any response to unique public health issues affecting county residents.

“Dr. Pino has a rich history of working with our Department of Health Services to meet the needs of our community,” the mayor said. “Over the past few years, Dr. Pino’s leadership has been instrumental in the success of our public health initiatives, including our response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Pino’s training includes an MD from the Instituto Superior de Ciencias Medicas de la Universidad de La Habana, Havana, Cuba, as well as a Masters in Public Health from the University of Connecticut Medical School. Prior to coming to Florida State in 2019, Dr. Pino served as Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner for the Connecticut Department of Health from 2015-2019.

“He has proven himself as an asset to our public health efforts and will continue to provide valuable leadership to our community in his new role with Orange County,” the mayor added.

Dr. Pino’s appointment will become effective April 26, 2022, after approval by the County Board of Commissioners.
