Charges: two counts of child neglect, four counts of aggravated animal cruelty, 29 counts of animal cruelty, two counts of felony possession of a firearm, one count of possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, one count of possession of cocaine. Additional charges are pending.
PINELLAS COUNTY – On May 14, 2022, around 10:20 a.m., deputies were dispatched 12843 119and North Street in unincorporated Largo, regarding a complaint of several dogs barking at the residence.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they also heard the dogs barking and attempted to make contact with someone at home.
Deputies say that when they made contact with Terrell Coley, 38, in the backyard, a large amount of handmade wooden kennels were observed, which housed around 30 dogs of all ages. Due to the deputy’s observations of possible animal abuse and neglect, Coley was taken into custody.
Deputies obtained a search warrant from the State’s Attorney’s Office, Sixth Judicial Circuit, and entered the property and residence. Pinellas County Animal Services arrived on the scene and 33 Pit Bull Terriers of varying ages were seized and recovered, with four of the dogs sustaining injuries. Additional dog fighting equipment was also inside the house.
According to deputies, two children under the age of 14 were in Coley’s care and inside the home without food or supplies.
Deputies also discovered cocaine, several firearms and ammunition inside the residence. A large amount of white powder was also found and test results are pending.
Coley was arrested and charged with two counts of child neglect, four counts of aggravated animal cruelty, 29 counts of animal cruelty, two counts of felony possession of a firearm , one count of possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, one count of possession of cocaine. Additional charges are pending.
Coley was transported to Pinellas County Jail without incident.
The investigation is continuing.
